Service Disruption FAQ
We know you have questions. Here’s what we can share right now.
Thank you for your patience. Here is an update on the service disruption.
In February, an unauthorized third-party remotely accessed the systems that house newspaperarchive.com and encrypted some systems, which disrupted the site’s functionality and some shared services on Storied.com. Once we were aware, we started our incident response plan, engaging leading cybersecurity firms to contain the unauthorized access, secure our systems, and investigate what occurred.
Storied.com and family tree data operate from a separate system and were not directly affected. However, there are some shared newspaperarchive.com services that power historical record search and newspaper search on Storied.com. We are pleased to share that newspaper search is now available. Storytelling, book creation, and family tree functionality remain available on Storied.
Our team is continuing to work on restoring historical record search. We know how important this feature is to our users, and we are making progress toward restoring access as safely and completely as possible.
We appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we complete this work.
We’re currently experiencing a service disruption that has taken parts of our systems offline. We know this is frustrating and disruptive. Our team has been working around the clock with outside specialists to restore service safely, and resolving this is our highest priority. It appears it may take several days to get things fully functional.
We value your business and will find a way to make up for lost time on the service once we get things back up and running. We’ll post updates here as soon as we have confirmed information to share.
